General Poker Rules

There are specific rules of the poker game though some variations exist depending on whether one is playing at home or at a casino. Different casinos have different rules altogether. This is quite an interesting aspect which makes poker a favorite game to play because though the rules change from place to place, there are still some guidelines which are common to all the games which make it easy for anyone possessing the basic principles to play the game. Despite these variations, there are some rules which are common which come in handy to assist the players in case of disputes or confusion during playing time. The Roberts rules of poker have been widely adopted as he is a well known authority on the poker games and he is credited to have initially written the poker rules available to the general public.

Before embarking on any game, it is expected that the players exhibit the best of behavior. This is especially so at the casinos. In case a player does not follow the stipulated code of behavior, then he is usually barred from using the card room. Some of the behavioral aspects not permitted at all include cheating or colluding with any of the players in order to cheat or influence a win, use of obscene language as well as threatening any player either verbally or physically. Emotional behavior which can result to throwing, bending or even crumpling of the cards is not permitted at all.

Players are also advised to have the best of etiquette when embarking on a poker game. They are not to act out of turn neither are they to do deliberate actions like splashing chips to the pot. It is not expected for one to read the hand of a player during the showdown before the player places it on the table. Commanding a player to face up a hand at the showdown is also not allowed. The player is allowed to take his time before carrying out a move. Nevertheless, stalling the game is also not allowed. It is not expected for one to reveal what a live hand has especially during a multi handled pot. The betting process has to be completed before such an action is undertaken.

The players are expected to handle the chips well during any poker game round. For example, one is not expected to deliberately discard the hands away from the muck. Instead the cards are required to be released at a moderate speed rate and in a low line of flight. The players should also stack the cards in a good way which is not likely to interfere with either dealing or viewing of the cards.
