The game is very similar to Texas Holdem apart from one or two variations. As with Texas, the point of the game is to win money by holding the best five card hand; if you need to then you can familiarize yourself with the poker hands. When playing Omaha your hand must contain two of the four hole cards you are dealt.

The two players to the left of the dealer start the game by placing a small and big blind bet, depending upon your chosen game these bets may vary. Each player is then dealt out four personal cards; these are dealt out face down so no one else can see them.

There will be four rounds of betting in Omaha poker games. Each time a round of betting occurs, it begins with the player that is to the immediate left of the big blind. That player may call the big blind, raise or fold then the action continues in a clockwise direction until all the other players have raised, called, or folded. After “the flop” the players also have the chance to check if no other bets have been placed.

After the first round of betting there is “The Flop”, this is the term that is used to refer to the first 3 cards that the dealer puts into the shared cards spot, in the centre of the table. At this point players have the three cards on the table plus their four hole cards to create a hand from. After the flop is another round of betting as before.
Once the previous round of betting is concluded the 4th card is dealt out to the centre of the table, in poker this is known as “the turn”. After the turn card is shown the third betting round begins.

Finally the dealer deals out the “River Card”, this is the term that is used to refer to the 5th card that the dealer puts into the shared cards spot, in the centre of the table. There is then a final round of betting before the players show their cards and the winner takes the pot.

Once the poker hand has been played and the showdown completed the game starts again. The dealer position is moved clockwise around the table and the game is continued.
