Poker and the Recession
As we move into the summer of 2009 recession has been in full swing for the last year. Unemployment increases by thousands in the UK on a daily basis. As sure as night follows day there will be another thousand people who got up this morning for work will not get up for their cornflakes when the cock crows. Id love a lie in the morning but my hunger for work out ways my stupidity at this uncertain time.
Nearly all businesses and trade have suffered; pubs and clubs close on a daily basis, as combination of factors take affect, the smoking ban was the knife in the stomach for the industry, the knife was twisted as continual tax levies we were placed on booze and now the recession has meant that people are more cautious with their money – dwindling are the time of pissing your money up against the wall! So pubs have fought back, and about time too! I’ve been crying out for somewhere local to play a competitive game of cards for a few years. Pubs ands clubs across the country are organising poker nights on a regular basis. Those that have lost jobs and are living closer to the bread line than they are used to have little to do all morning and all evening – this is a vicious cycle.
Everyone needs a release from working all week or trying to find work all week. Poker nights held at your local seems to be providing a solution. Poker leagues allow for games to be played for as little as
