This game started its journey sometime in the middle of the tenth century from the kingdom of the emperor from China named Mu-tsung, who used to be a huge fan of the "domino cards". The popularity of this game started to spread and reached different parts of the world like Egypt. The history of this game continued in Persia and was known as "as nas". "As nas" was played with only twenty five cards at that time and there were five suits of cards. The Persians went ahead and introduced this game to the Germans somewhere around the seventeenth century. They used to call this game by the name of "pochen". Later the Germans took the game to France with them. This was a turning point in the game. The French introduced the system of bluffing in the game to make it more intensifying and used it as a strategy to win. In France the game was popular by the name of "Poque".
The game was eventually moved forward to The United States by the French. The French people used to play the game while traveling across the river Mississippi and taught other people who showed interest in the game. During the American Civil War another important change in the game was introduced by the soldiers. They started using the conventional set of English cards with fifty two cards and four suits. Another important event in the history of Texas Holdem took place in the year 1875 with the introduction of the Wild Card which is commonly known as the Joker Card. The game started to gain popularity on a fast pace and soon this game became popular in other parts of the world as well.
